I love Israel — the land, the nation, the people, my brothers and sisters who live there, including students, colleagues and friends. My first visit was in 1971, our most recent in 2018; I’ve lost track in between. Researching on cotton farms, teaching in Technion and Bet Dagan ARO, visiting biblical sites from Dan to Beersheva, and further South to Eilat.
October 7, 2023 was a milestone in my life. My heart wanted and wants to fly to a farm to operate machinery, run a computer or direct labor as substitution for personnel now fighting the evil antiSemites determined to wipe us out, from the river to the sea. I am a hands-on farm boy engineer; how can I help?
I read, and read, and read accounts, opinions and thoughts across a variety of media. Nachal Oz is of special interest to me. Late 1980’s I was driven down into Gaza then just East of the border to Nachal Oz to work with the cotton farmers there. Efrat is of special interest; we have close friends there. In Haifa we have multiple friends. In Afula the daughter of my 1981 mentor practices medicine. Jerusalem is the center of the world. A student lives southwest of Jerusalem; his son teaches in Beersheva. And elsewhere throughout the land. … We check on them. …
